THE first Basketball Unified Sports (BUS) Memorial Cup, in honor of the late Bing Uy Soyao, will be hosted by BUS Group on July 28 at JGC Gym at Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

Four teams, Antones Lines, Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa), Cap Boys and Judge Marketing, will initiate the league to be participated in by active members of BUS Group, the club co-founded by Soyao in 2004, together with the late Jonathan Dicen of Baciwa and Tatang Serran of Homesite.

Registration fee per team, composed of 15 Huskies, is pegged at P4,000 for a single round elimination, a crossover semifinal and knockout final.

Tournament format requires a 10-minute per quarter for the first 3 quarters wherein one 50-year old and above is "a must" to play and be replaced by a teammate of thesame age bracket.

The last quarter is a 12-minute finale wherein the first 5 minutes allow only the 50-and above to see action. A team will choose from its opponent in case there is shortage of 50-year or above.

Guests of honor in opening day will be the family of the late Soyao, Betty, his wife, and sons Shearwin and Ronron, both former Blue Falcons of St. John's Institute.

Antones Lines is skippered by Rene Antones, Baciwa will be under engineer Samuel Penado, Cap Boys to be handled by Engr. Melvin Baclay and Judge Marketing under Edgar Basco.

BUS Group, which practices regularly from 7 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, is now accepting members below 30 years old subject to approval of its core committee. (HGD)
