TWO unidentified suspects were killed while one was arrested after authorities responded to a carjacking incident around 8:45 a.m., Friday, February 24 at Fatima village, Tagoloan, Lanao del Norte.
Police Superintendent Leony Roy Ga, Iligan City police director, said around 8:30 a.m., the family of businessman Othelo Adiong, 36, with his mother Elvira, 63 and wife Estiphanie and his children were on board a white Ford Ranger XLT when unidentified armed suspects inside a white Elantra flagged down Adiong’s vehicle along C3 road in Merilla, Ubaldo Lata, Cagayan de Oro City.
The suspects with long firearms and a hand gun forcibly took Adoing’s vehicle, leaving behind Adiong and his family, and sped off towards Abuno, a hinterland village.
Responding elements of Iligan City Police Office and Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force chased the suspects where they opened fire which resulted to a shootout, killing the two suspects.
The other suspect was identified only as Abdul of Padian, Marawi City who drove the suspects’ vehicle where it was apprehended at Camagui highway.
Ga said appropriate charges are being prepared while the suspect is detained in jail and the police are still investigating as to what group the suspects belong to.
The Adiong family lauded the efforts of Iligan City Police.
