(UPDATED) -- Two drug surrenderers were caught by the operatives led by Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) on Thursday morning, December 21, in a drug bust in Barangay Palanas, Alcantara, Cebu.
Suspects Rodrigo Oyangurin Sepe Jr., 28, and Rock Jade Gabales Lamosao yielded six grams of white crystals believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu.”
In a separate operation on the same day, an alleged former close-in bodyguard of Dumanjug Mayor Efren Guntrano Gica eluded arrest in Barangay Poblacion, Dumanjug, Cebu.
Senior Inspector Nazarino Emia, the PIB team leader, identified the suspect as ex-Police Officer 2 Sabiano Tolentino Saromines Jr.
The drug bust was successful, but the suspect was able to run into the mangroves after he noticed he was dealing with the police. Saromines carried with him two marked bills of P100 and a sachet of shabu.
Saromines allegedly went absent without filing official leave, after he was assigned to the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao for his alleged illegal activities.
In Alcantara, the contraband seized by the operatives of Cebu Provincial Police Office-Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) is worth P69,000, a Dangerous Drugs Board value.
Emia said Sepe is a fisherman, while Lamosao is a businessman.
The suspects, he said, surrendered to the police and promised to stop selling shabu, but surveillance showed they are still engage in illegal drug trade.
Lamosao sourced his supplies of shabu from Sepe, whose supplier is from B. Rodriguez St., Cebu City.
Suspects will be facing complaints for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Selling shabu is a non-bailable offense. (KAL/VoxPop Cebu)
