2 hired killers slain in Zamboanga shootout

TWO gunmen believed to be hired killers were slain in a shootout with policemen in the nearby province of Zamboanga del Norte, a police official said Monday, September 19.

Zamboanga Peninsula Police Regional Office spokesman Rogelio Alabata said the shootout took place around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, September 18, in the village of Calatuan, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Alabata said the slain suspected hired killers were identified as Joseph Mariano of Imelda town, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Gil Judie Faburada of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.

The shootout ensued while the intelligence operatives of Sindangan municipal police station were conducting surveillance on the suspects.

A caliber .45 pistol and caliber .38 revolver were recovered from the slain suspects after the shootout.

Alabata said the Sindangan policemen have launched manhunt operation against the suspects’ companion, who managed to escape during the shootout.
