TWO men were arrested around 4 p.m. on Monday, June 19, for illegal fishing in the seawaters off Barangay Doong, Bantayan, Cebu.
Police identified the suspects as Anatalio Onrijas Delabajan and Erbem Cercado Jomoles, who were caught for using a trawl, which is prohibited under the Fisheries Code of the Philippines.
A trawl is an active fishing gear, which the law describes as a device "characterized by gear movement, and/or the pursuit of the target species by towing, lifting, and pushing the gears, surrounding, covering, dredging, pumping and scaring the target species to impoundments."
Confiscated by the police was the suspects' motor boat. (KAL/VoxPop Cebu)
