SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- Two large navy war ships are temporarily docked at Poro Point pier after conducting patrol for several days in Benham Rise due to the Chinese vessels spotted in the area for past months.
“We are here to fill-up our logistic requirements like fuel, food, and others, which we are standing by for newly directives ordered from main headquarters, and going back to patrol in Benham Rise,” said Commander Jeff Rene Nadugo, commanding officer of the BRP Ramon Alcaraz.
Aside from Alcaraz, the second ship docked at the naval station is the Sultan Kudarat (PS-22).
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reported the Philippine Navy’s sole oceanographic and hydrographic survey ship conducted survey and mapping on the 13 million hectare Benham Rise, a seismically active undersea region and extinct volcanic ridge located in the Philippine Sea.
Meanwhile, the BRP Ramon Alcaraz, the Philippine Navy vessel are two-days open to the public viewing outside and inside areas.
Nadugo said as part of their program, the navy wants to showcase to residents including the new warship to appreciate. (Erwin Beleo)
