TWO local government units in Negros Oriental signified their intention to donate properties for the construction of their respective fire stations.
Bureau of Fire Protection-Negros Island Region (BFP-NIR) Director Fred Trajeras Jr. told VoxPop Bacolod on Friday, July 27, that he met with Bayawan City Mayor Henry Teves and Manjuyod town Mayor Felix Sy this week to discuss the proposed projects.
“The meeting with the mayors was positive as they have committed to help the BFP in the project,” Trajeras said.
Teves committed to donate a 1,000-square meter lot while Sy pledged to give an 800 square-meter lot in strategic locations.
Trajeras said he is also scheduled to meet with the mayors of the municipalities of Dauin and Zamboangita.
He added that he will request for another funding from the national headquarters for the construction of fire stations.
In Negros Occidental, the local government units of Silay, Talisay, Sipalay, Hinigaran, Toboso, Calatrava and Escalante have also donated properties for their stations.
Trajeras said the municipalities of Manjuyod, Ayungon, Pamplona, Sibulan and Dauin in Negros Oriental and the towns of Pulupandan and Isabela in Negros Occidental don’t have fire stations. At present, the BFP-NIR has 45 active fire stations.
Last week, Trajeras said the national headquarters has allocated P50 million for the construction of fire stations in Sipalay, Toboso, Calatrava, Talisay, Candoni, Vallehermoso, and Mabinay.
