TWO persons who were allegedly involved in illegal drugs were killed in separate incidents in Mandaue City last Friday night.
A team from the Mandaue City Police Office-Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) led by Senior Insp. Zenaido Sanchez was about to serve an arrest warrant against a robbery suspect when they passed by Romnick Flores’s house in Sitio Tuburan, Barangay Labogon past 9 p.m.
According to PO1 Sanchez Fegarido, the 27-year-old was sitting in bed preparing something while his door was opened. A gun was lying next to him.
SPO4 Marcos Noval, who was with the team, said they approached Flores, but the latter shot at them, prompting them to shoot back.
Flores died on the spot after he was hit in the chest.
Surrenderee
Flores reportedly surrendered during Oplan Tokhang last July 25, but he allegedly returned to selling illegal drugs.
His customers were mostly students of the national high school in the barangay, Noval said.
Police recovered a .45 pistol from Flores and an empty shell at the scene.
A medium pack of suspected shabu, a sachet of the same substance, drug paraphernalia, P4,800 in cash and two handcuffs were also found in Flores’s house.
In Barangay Centro, Ralph Paran, 21, was hanging out on B. Ceniza St. when two unidentified men on a motorcycle shot him five times.
Witnesses said the gunmen wore a mask and a helmet and they both had on a black jacket.
PO2 Bernard Salimbot of Mandaue Police Station 1 said Paran, a resident of Zone 6, Barangay Mantuyong, was involved in several theft incidents and was linked to the illegal drug trade.
He had also been in and out of prison, Salimbot said.
Last week, Paran went to Police Station 1 and reported that a robber had stabbed him in the stomach.
It turned out that the owner of a tattoo parlor whom he tried to rob was the one responsible.
Paran was also on the police station’s drug watch list, but he did not surrender.
Salimbot said they are looking at two angles in Paran’s death: he was either killed by former theft victims or because of his involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Police recovered five empty shells from a .45 pistol at the scene.
