REGIONAL Prosecutor Janet Fabrero has designated two prosecutors from outside Mati City to resolve the murder case filed against the suspects of the killing of Mati City Prosecutor Roland Acido.
Fabrero, in a Facebook interview with VoxPop Davao, said that these prosecutors are from Davao region.
She also said that the designation came after the only remaining prosecutor assigned in Mati City moved to inhibit herself from the case.
“By reason of inhibition, I can designate acting city prosecutors for Mati city, for the [that specific] case only,” Fabrero said.
She added that the regular preliminary investigation will take 60 days and they are hoping that the panel of prosecutors will be able to issue the resolution before the date.
“Due process requires summoning respondent; the prosecutors must wait for preliminary investigation because it is quasi-judicial. Evidence shall be appreciated after all parties submitted evidence,” Fabrero said.
She added that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Southern Mindanao Office, who filed the charges against the respondents, will only be involved again in the case once the prosecution recommends to file the case before the court.
“NBI will be involved in the trial of the case,” she said.
Previously, it was reported that Acido was shot dead by an unidentified man as he was about to park outside the Hall of Justice in Mati City, Davao Oriental last October 26, 2016.
As for the protection of the prosecutors, which Fabrero has committed to work out, she said that that the Department of Justice is still working for it collectively.
