TWO provincial jail inmates have escaped while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Zamboanga del Norte, Sunday, February, 26, police said.

Zamboanga del Norte police director Senior Superintendent Edwin Buenaventura Wagan identified the escapees as Joey Sarigumba, 32, and Winifredo Luminarias, 33, both inmates of the provincial jail.

He said the two inmates escaped around 3:50 p.m. Sunday while confined at the Zamboanga del Norte Hospital in Dipolog City.

They were admitted for hemorrhoids and constipation and were watched by Abraham Antiquina, a provincial guard.

Both inmates are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Wagan said a manhunt operation is being conducted to recapture the two escapees.

Wagan has alerted all the police stations in Zamboanga del Norte as well as coordinated with other law enforcement agencies for the immediate recapture the escapees. (Bong Garcia/VoxPop Philippines)
