TWO workers were killed when a beam framework collapsed in the construction site of Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) at Barangay 8, Bacolod City last Saturday, November 11.
Killed were Doddy Boy Mallorca, 30, of Manapla town, and Hercalo Abraham, 36, of Bacolod City.
Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias Jr., head of Police Station 2, said both victims were pouring cement on the sixth floor of the mixed-use building when the incident happened around 1:45 a.m.
Only Mallorca was initially found and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to severe head injuries.
A few hours later, his co-worker Abraham was discovered dead after he was buried in cement.
Villarias said there was apparent negligence, but they have yet to know the cause of the collapse.
The Ayala Land project dubbed Capitol Central includes a four-storey mall and a four-storey office building targeted to open on the first quarter of 2018.
The construction of the building was stopped on Saturday following the incident.
“It is the responsibility of the contractor to ensure safety among the workers at the site,” Villarias said.
He added that the victim’s families and the company have yet to coordinate with the police regarding the incident.
