A TOTAL of 2,890.20 kilograms of illegally-slaughtered meat were seized by the Task Force Botagoy in various public markets in Bacolod City from January to July 8 this year.
Rex Juplo, head of Task Force Botagoy, on Thursday, July 13, said the “hot meat” were confiscated in satellite public markets at Barangays Mansilingan, Granada, Sum-ag, and Singcang-Airport.
In January, the task force confiscated a total of 111.80 kilograms of pork meat; February, 48.30 kilograms of pork meat; March, 23.72 kilograms of pork meat; and April, 2, 558.30 kilograms of assorted meat were voluntarily surrendered by a business establishment owner.
In May, a total of 48 kilograms of pork meat were seized; June, 88.08 kilograms of pork meat; and July, 12 kilograms of pork meat.
Juplo said the confiscated pork meat sold at P200 per kilogram had a total value of P630,913.20.
He said the “hot meat” were burned and buried at the city’s slaughterhouse grounds.
The City Legal Office and the National Meat Inspection Service disallowed the distribution of the confiscated meat to any organization or individual because these failed to pass the inspections.
Juplo said there were suggestions to distribute the confiscated good meat to organizations, but it is illegal.
“We burned the meat using muriatic acid and gasoline,” he said.
He added that they will continue monitoring the public markets to stop illegal slaughtering.
Juplo urged meat vendors to engage the services of the slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan, and voluntarily surrender spoiled meat.
