ABOUT 29 high school students felt dizzy after they inhaled smoke from a burning tire during a fire drill held inside the campus of Ramon Torres Louisiana National High School in Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday, September 28.
The school, with assistance from Ma-ao Volunteers Rescue Unit and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, conducted an earthquake drill around 9 a.m.
Fire Officer 3 Martedi Aldeguer, chief of operations of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Bago City, said the students were directed to proceed to the open field for the fire drill.
After the students complained of dizziness, they were rushed to a hospital, and were later discharged after they were treated.
Aldeguer said the school failed to inform them about the fire drill, but they immediately responded after receiving information about the incident.
He reminded school administrators to inform the BFP when they are scheduled to conduct fire drill exercises.
