THREE construction workers were injured after a scaffolding of a building under construction along MJ Cuenco Avenue in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City, collapsed around 4 a.m. Thursday, May 18.
Police Officer 2 Archie Pahanunot, of the Waterfront Police Station, said they responded to the area together with the Bureau of Fire Protection and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management unit after a portion of the 7th floor collapsed at dawn.
Pahanunot said they waited to be allowed inside the building for 30 minutes but were forced to pull out after the security guard assured them that there were no casualties.
Jessie Revillas, a mason, said in a dyAB report that there were 13 construction workers in the area during the incident.
He said he and the other wounded workers only sustained minor injuries.
"Milayat ko niya naka-syagit ko og 'Ginoo, tabang!' (I jumped and shouted 'Lord, help me')," Sario Sanico, 46, another mason, said as he recounted the events of the incident.
The construction of the building was stopped since the Department of Labor and Employment and other government agencies are still assessing the safety of the workers.
The building was reportedly owned by Lite Shipping and the main contractor is Devlarn Ventures and Development Corporation. (JOB/VoxPop Cebu)
