THREE police officers of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) were relieved from their post on Wednesday following their involvement in the extortion of motorist who failed to pass in the random smoke-belching test.
QCPD director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar said he ordered the relief of Senior Police Officer 2 Raul Nadera and Police Officer 3 Anthony Tecson, the two officers who extorted money from a poseur driver; and Senior Police Officer 4 Redentor Fajardo, chief of the Motorcycle Unit of the District Traffic Enforcement Unit.
"SPO4 Fajardo was relieved in consonance with the command responsibility being the immediate supervisor of these kotong cops arrested by CITF [Tuesday]," Eleazar said.
Nadera and Tecson were nabbed Tuesday along with nine members of the Quezon City Anti-Smoke Belching Unit involved in the extortion of motorists, especially of trucks, who failed the smoke-belching test.
Guillermo said the two are demanding around P500 to P1,500 in exchange of waiving smoke belching tickets to alleged violators.
Nadera and Tecson are facing robbery and extortion cases while Tecson is facing additional charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as the firearms recovered from him was unregistered.
Guillermo said they are still investigating if Fajardo is aware of his men's illegal activities. (VoxPop Philippines)
