Thirty-six vendors occupying areas in the Bacolod public plaza were removed in a clearing operation conducted by a team of the City Legal Enforcement and Market Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force (MCMT) Saturday.
Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on markets, said Sunday that vendors are not allowed inside the public plaza.
“It’s part of the city’s program to regulate the vendors at the public plaza and we will find an area for them to sale their products,” he said.
Of the 36 vendors, 10 are irregularly selling in the area.
Most of them sell food and assorted products.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now implementing a rehabilitation project at the public plaza, including the four fountains, railings, benches, and lighting system.
The National Government allotted a P9.8-million budget for the project through the request of Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya.
The DPWH will finish the beautification before the MassKara Festival in October.
Pineda said the City Government will also regulate the vendors at the downtown area and the three major public markets.
