ROBERTO Montelibano, chairman of Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said big investments are expected to come to Negros Occidental with the establishment of the 40-hectare economic zone (ecozone) of Silay City.
He said the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) has approved the ecozone situated behind the Bacolod-Silay Airport, which includes a two-hectare relocation site, and it only needs the approval of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“We should prepare for big investments. We are waiting for the approval of the President so that we can start the construction of the roads and buildings,” Montelibano said, adding that locators can also put up their own buildings.
Montelibano, who discussed the project after the Provincial Investment Council meeting Friday, said they are targeting plants in Cebu such as small companies operating under the Mactan Export Processing Zone.
He also encouraged local government units to update their respective local investment codes and prepare the map of road networks, and improve port facilities.
