SOME 400 teams from across the country are expected to converge in three football fields in Talisay City, Negros Occidental for the staging of the fourth Ceres Cup on May 20 and 21.
Starting with 306 teams in 2014, the competition has expanded to 408 teams in 2015 and 446 teams last year, and Ceres Cup is expected to set another record breaking participation this year.
Games will be played at North Field, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College Football Field, and Sta. Maria Football Field – all in Talisay City.
With 14 age-groups will be contested in the two-day festival, around 350 teams have already registered for the tournament.
Among the surprise participants is a Korean team brought over by former Ceres Football Club (FC) coach Cha Soong Yong, who will participate in the Men’s 40 division.
“Ceres Negros Football Club is humbled by the overwhelming support the Philippine football community has shown to the Ceres Cup throughout the years,” said tournament chairman Nicolas Golez.
A vision of Ceres FC manager Leo Rey Yanson, this football festival is aimed at providing football enthusiasts the opportunity to foster and exhibit sportsmanship in a competitive, safe, and friendly environment. It also seeks to encourage and promote football development in Negros Occidental.
Registration per team is pegged at P1,000 with transportation provided for different locations.
Trophies and medals will be given to the top teams as well as to the age group most valuable players. (HGD)
