ABOUT 44 kilos of double-dead meat was confiscated by operatives of Task Force Botagoy at the public market of Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City at around 10:30 a.m., Tuesday.
Rex Juplo, head of Task Force Botagoy, said the double-dead meat was seized from the stall of Nancy Naciz, 44, also of Barangay Sum-ag.
He said Naciz admitted that the city’s AVM Bernardo slaughterhouse refused to accept her hogs that she resorted to illegal slaughtering.
Juplo stressed it is the abattoir’s policy not to accept dead or dying animals.
The operatives confiscated two legs and two heads of pigs.
Juplo said they were informed that Naciz threw away the bodies of the pigs.
The confiscated meat were burned and buried at the city’s slaughterhouse grounds.
Juplo said that selling double-dead meat is illegal because these might be carrying diseases that could be transferred to humans.
He reminded consumers to always check or smell the meat to determine if it is double-dead, and to check the meat inspection certificate of the stall owner.
The confiscation in Sum-ag Tuesday was the latest in the series of operations conducted by the reconstituted Task Force Botagoy since November.
On Sunday, 75 kilograms of “hot meat” were also seized in two separate operations at the public market of Barangay Granada.
The “hot meat” seized from the stalls of Ronilo Diocson and Jose Ronnie Ruel did not undergo inspection at the city’s slaughterhouse.
Both sellers failed to present meat inspection certificates.
