SAN SIMON -- Some 500 seniors citizens from this town recently received their quarterly social pension in a simple pay-out ceremony held in the municipal covered court.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Arminda Abenoja facilitated the pay-out of senior citizens who were identified as indigent and needy.
The distribution was pursuant to Republic Act No. 994 or the Expanded Citizens Act which aims to provide financial assistance to needy elderly who have no means of sustaining their monthly expenses.
The 500 senior citizens received a total of P1,500 cash each which covers the month of April, May and June, said Abenoja.
Mayor Leonora Wong, for her part, said that the local government continues to fulfill its mandate of delivering social services to its constituents as ordered by the law.
She added that the monthly pension of the senior citizens serves as payback for their contribution to their respective communities during their prime.
