ABOUT 5,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) including their families in Davao Region are expected to join the 2016 OFWs Family Day celebration slated at Davao City Recreation Center on Quezon Boulevard in Davao City, next month.

With a theme “Matatag na Pamilyang Pilipino sa Panahon ng Pagbabago,” Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa)-Davao Director Eduardo Bellido said the event aims to gather OFWs and their families to have time together.

"This year's celebration shall be drawn into a 'familympic' type of activity. A modest attendance of the participants are expected to join the activity and are entitled for a raffle coupon, and get a chance to win fabulous prices," Bellido said.

Bellido said they had prepared various activities and Pinoy games that will make the event more fun and memorable. He added that aside from the games, the Owwa-Davao has also lined-up various services for the workers and their families.

Services available include free medical check-up from Pascual Consumer Healthcare Corporation, free eye check-up from Eyesight Optical Clinic, and a body massage from International Spiritual Material & Therapeutic Massage Center.

Bellido said representatives from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth), Philippines’ Social Security System (SSS), and Pagibig Fund will also provide assistance to those who seek to inquire about their membership and others services from these agencies.

"The participants will be entertained with some invited home grown talents of the country, while various handicrafts and food products made by the OFW Family Circles from different municipalities/cities will be exhibited," he added.

Bellido said the invited guests are Owwa administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, Davao City Councilor Antoinette Principe-Castrodes, Migrants Affair and Department of Labor and Employment-Davao Director lawyer Joffrey Suyao.

Since the inception of the event, Bellido said, Davao Region is now on its third year of celebrating the OFW Family Day in the five provinces of the region.

He added that the office has scheduled eight family day celebration in other areas.
