A TOTAL of 55 traffic enforcers from the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) and Traffic Group (TG) workers were revoked of their Land Transportation Office (LTO) deputation last week, an LTO official said.
"LTO is not giving deputation to them due to their skills. We hire or qualify them to become deputized agents of LTO because of their attitude and transparency towards their work as enforcers. It is our primary mandate na kung hindi sila nagtatrabaho ng maayos, tatanggalin talaga namin sila (that if they don't work well, we will fire them)," LTO-Davao Assistant Regional Director Neil Cañedo said Thursday, March 9 during the I-Speak Conference at the Davao City Hall.
Cañedo said 30 from CTTMO and 25 from TG were discharged. He added that among the grounds for their revocation include inefficiency and negligence.
"Usually, those enforcers are on duty pero wala naga adto sa dalan, basig naay lain errands ginabuhat (but they do not work on the road. They might have been attending to other errands)," Cañedo said.
He said of the 87 TG workers and 59 CTTMO enforcers, only 62 and 29 were retained.
Most of them had a traffic apprehension of less than one hundred. Traffic apprehension refers to the number of moving violations by the motorists caught on the road.
Cañedo said the current move made by LTO-Davao is part of agency's efforts to ease out the traffic condition in Davao City.
"Compared to Edsa with zero percent and Cebu with 20 percent, Davao City still has 80 percent chance to solve the traffic decongestion. So we would do everything to fix it even if it means, removing the deputation of some traffic enforcers," he said.
Canedo said the removal of the 55 traffic enforcers will not affect the traffic operations in the city.
"Visible pa rin naman ang mga remaining enforcers natin, umaayos naman din naman ang mga motorista pag nakikita sila (Our remaining enforcers are still visible. Motorists behave when they see them). What's important is visible tayo sa mga daan (we're visible on the streets)," he said.
The regional office of LTO reported a total 65,204 apprehensions with over 462 units impounded for 2016, majority of those that were seized include motorcycle and colorum operations.
