SIX Negrense sepak takraw players, including four from Victorias City, one from Bacolod City and another from Murcia town, will suit up for the Philippine contingent in the upcoming 9th Asean School Games from July 13-21 in Singapore.
These players, who are part of the 2017 Palarong Pambansa champion team representing Negros Island Region, included Victorias National High School mainstays Ian Gerald Sudayan, June Clyde Abellano, Ricky Guarino and Edhmic Dave Balderas; Bata National High School’s Paul John Embahador; and Kervy Jules Cayetano from Lopez Jaena National High School-Murcia.
Victorias National High School principal Cheryl Tondo, who is joining the team, said the Negrenses will be part of the 12-man team with six others coming from the National Capital Region.
The locals will fly to Marikina on July 1 to undergo preparation before leaving for Singapore on the 13th.
“I am very proud of my boys. I see them sweat it out. They are so passionate of it. Sepak takraw has become their life and helped them to be rooted in school,” Tondo said.
The Asean School Games will feature 1,800 student-athletes from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, and host-Singapore.
Ten sports events will be competed, including athletics, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, netball, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, tenpin bowling, and volleyball.
