OUT of the top graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) batch 2017, seven hailed from Mindanao.
PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa presented Thursday the top ten graduates of PNPA Masidlak class of 2017.
They were:
Top 1: Cadet Macdum Darping Enca from Cotabato
Top 2: Cadet Midzfar Hamis Omar from Tawi-Tawi
Top 3: Cadet Jan Ace Elcid Pascua Layug from Tondo, Manila
Top 4: Cadet Juan Paolo Alday Porciuncula from Sta. Maria, Bulacan
Top 5: Cadet Harley Glenn Bacarro from Cagayan De Oro
Top 6: Cadet Michael Salendab Daunotan from Cagayan De Oro
Top 7: Cadet Ian Rey Canen Diolanto from Sultan Kudarat
Top 8: Cadet Abdulcahar Bacarat Armama from Cotabato
Top 9: Cadet Michael John Suniega Sentinta from Sultan Kudarat
Top 10: Cadet Maysy Villaflor Cataquiz from Quezon Province
Of the top 10, six will be part of the PNP, two will be joining the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the other two will be with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
The PNPA batch 2013 started with 365 cadets, but only 144 of them, including 22 female cadets, successfully made it to the graduation.
Enca said being a graduate of the PNPA is something they are proud of.
"Being a Mindanaoan is a privilege po lalo na po grumaduate na number 1 sa PNPA. Isa pong karangalan po para sa amin na makapaglingkod sa bayan regardless kung saan kami galing. Ang PNPA po tinuruan kami para makapagsilbi at makapaglingkod sa bayan ng buong puso," he said.
Before entering the PNPA, Engca said he was once an exchange student of the American field service youth exchange study program based in St. Louis, Missouri, where he was able to share not only the Filipino culture but also the culture of Muslim Filipinos.
“I will show them I am a good Muslim. I am not a terrorist. I am not an extremist and I am just a good person just like any other,” said Enca.
For Bacarro, he said he took the PNPA entrance exam four times due to the encouragement of his family and mentors.
For Cataquiz, she said her childhood dream was to become a doctor so she can save lives. She said she was then taking up Electronic Communications Engineering when her brother asked her to accompany him in taking the PNPA exam.
Her brother urged her to take the exam as well and both passed in the first screening but her brother failed in the second.
“Then sabi ng papa ko, ituloy mo lang. Just try lang. Ayun tinuloy-tuloy ko in God's faith ako ‘yung nakapasok and I took the courage na ituloy na ‘yung course kasi nakita (ko) nandun ‘yung passion (ko),” she said.
Sentina, for his part, said he wanted to give up when his mother passed away while he was inside the academy.
“We are all human beings. As cadets we are not robots so in the academy we are taught that if one will never leave, we will never know the joy of return. Una madedemoralize ka talaga sa mga inspiration na magpatuloy sa academy,” he said.
PNP chief’s advise
Before the presentation, the cadets made a courtesy visit on Dela Rosa in his office.
Dela Rosa said he advised them to not to be picky of their assignments as it will help them be better public servants.
“Unang-una I advised them let the good times roll. Huwag kayong mamili ng assignment. Huwag kayong lumapit sa mga pulitiko or mga influential government officials para makiusap na i-assign kayo sa ganung unit dahil dyan magstart ‘yung hindi magandang takbo ng career ninyo,” said Dela Rosa.
Meanwhile, Dela Rosa confirmed that his son will be entering the PNPA.
“Medyo apprehensive ako but anyway. Pabayaan ko siya kung ano gusto niya sa buhay. Sabi ko sa kanya desisyon mo yan, huwag kang padalos-dalos. Kung desidido ka, go ahead, kung alangain ka, huwag ituloy. Desidido daw siya,” he said. (VoxPop Philippines)
