POWER surplus regime in Mindanao will continue as six new prospective power plants will be installed in Davao Region, generating a combined supply of 7,271 megawatts (MW).
National Economic and Development Authority Regional Director Maria Lourdes Lim said during Friday’s Kapehan sa PIA forum that some of these power plants will be commissioning within the term of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Lim cited these plants are: two coal thermal power plants of San Miguel Consolidated Power Corp. in Malita, Davao Occidental (300 MW and 600 MW); coal thermal power plant of SMC Global Power located in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur (328 MW); diesel power plant of Total Power Incorporated in Mati, Davao Oriental (5,883 MW); diesel power plant of Panasia Energy Inc in Malita, Davao Occidental (20 MW); and the Davao Hydroelectric Power Project of San Lorenzo Luiz Olympia in Davao City (140 MW).
The 300-MW power plant of San Miguel Consolidated Power Corp. will have its testing and commissioning on December next year while its 600-MW power plant’s schedule is still yet to be determined.
While the diesel power plant located in Mati, Davao Oriental, is scheduled to be tested and commissioned in December this year.
The schedule of the rest of the prospective power plants has yet to be determined.
At present, Lim noted that there are 11 power plants operating in the region generating over 877 MW.
The current power plant profile of the region includes two coal thermal power plants, four diesel power plants, four hydro-electric plants, and one solar power plant. Locations of these power sources are widely distributed in different areas in the region.
