9 injured in Zamboanga highway accident

NINE people, including three children, were injured when a passenger bus crashed into a dump truck along the highway in Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Friday, April 28.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula spokesman Rogelio Alabata said the incident occurred around 8 a.m. Thursday, April 27 in the village of Canacan, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Alabata identified the victims as Felix Torejas, 70, Sarah Jane Sangkula, six, Mary Jane Sangkula, six, Vanessa Canoy, 16, Hasim Mahamod, 30, Junrey Roales, 23, Christine Caputilla, seven, Jong-Jong Dayundon, 30, and, Roy Caputilla, all residents of Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The victims were all passengers of a bus driven by Roldan Balanay, 27.

Investigation showed the bus crashed after it tried to overtake a dump truck driven by Michael Jay Putol, 23, while en route to the town proper of Kabasalan.
