THE 9th Basura Run dubbed as “Teaching People to be Responsible” will unfurl at 5:30 a.m. on January 7 at the People's Park in Davao City.
Basura Run is a monthly event, initiated by Cebu Ultra Runners Club President Tony Galon, which aims to promote proper waste disposal.
“Every first Saturday of the month, runners from different clubs gather to participate the run which main objective is to pick up wastes along the route,” Galon said, adding Team Titans Davao of Doctor Ricardo Audan will spearhead the activity here.
The five-kilometer run within Davao City is a free registration event.
Cities of Manila, Bogo, Minglanilla, Cordova, Talisay, Carcar, Lapu-Lapu, San Carlos, Butuan, Baybay, Ormoc, Tacloban and Catbalogan along with Davao and Cebu will also hold a simultaneous run on the same day.
Galon is an advocate of the Five Pieces Habit, a daily activity that encourages everyone to voluntarily pick up at least five pieces of garbage a day.
