ALREADY being in the flower delivery industry for 10 years, FG Davao had been a witness of the different types of love stories blossoming and withering and blossoming again, not just in the city but as well as other parts of the country.
Starting out as an online business on Friendster in 2007, FG Davao was a part-time business of Peter Naurice Pegarro back when he was still a student.
It started out as a flower delivery business primarily targeting to overseas Filipino workers, who have families and girlfriends here in the Philippines they wish to surprise with flowers on special occasions.
“We saw the need for these workers abroad to connect with their loved ones here in Davao. We were the ones who filled up this need,” said Pegarro in the vernacular.
He added since their only mode of payment back then for their overseas clients was through Western Union, they found it difficult since a lot of background explanation was needed. He said they also acknowledged the need to gather the trust of these clients first of all.
As their clients continued to trust and patronize their service, more and more products were added. FG Davao does not only do flower delivery services but also of stuff toys, chocolates, and other food items.
By 2013, they started to already have a physical store at Lopez Jaena St., corner Lastimosa Alley. Peter and his wife, both are registered nurses, are now working hand in hand to keep the business going.
FG Davao sources out local flowers from local planters in Davao and Bukidnon while their imported flowers are grown from China, Ecuador, and Holland. Some of the flowers unique to them are Ecuadorian roses, Cabbage roses, Peonies, Paper Roses, and Lilium.
“I do love flowers but another thing I am also interested in is architecture and I am able to incorporate that with how we arrange the flowers here. I like how the color and the structure are being combined in architecture. That is my philosophy in what I am doing. Every bouquet has a story to tell,” he said.
Pegarro said with a decade of serving clients, they already had “suki,” who would order flowers for delivery from them every specific day of the months for their monthsary for two years. Sometimes the ordering would eventually stop, either marking the break-up of a couple or the eventual wedding day preceding their move abroad.
“We have a lot of clients like that. They started out with us, still in the courting stages, until such time they were married and the wife finally gave birth. The flowers for delivery for that were ordered from us as well. Other cases, the couple moved abroad, and instead of one of them receiving the flowers, they are the ones calling us to deliver flowers for the mother left here in the Philippines,” he said.
Business is usually on its peak season during Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day with delivery ranging from 50 to 150 transactions a day. Pegarro said last Mother’s Day they needed to limit the delivery a day as orders kept coming. On normal days, they usually do 5 to 20 deliveries daily.
“This is one of the times that I can say, even if I didn’t mean it, that I am living my dream job. If we do well with what we do through the services we provide, we know that we can affect the lives of our clients and in a way, we are a part of their love lives,” he said.
