THE City Government of Davao for nine years now has been helping many students to graduate college through its Educational Benefits System Unit (Ebsu).
"Around 200 scholars graduate yearly through the assistance," Ebsu Technical Asistant Emilio Domingo Jr. said.
Ebsu was established on the year 2009, which means a thousand of students already benefited from the program.
Currently, the city has 1,059 scholars and out of that number they expect 200 or more to graduate. They have not yet finalized the list of graduating scholars.
Domingo said Ebsu has eight forms of scholarships which they offer to different students.
From the present crop, 560 students are under Scholars on Tertiary Education Program (Step), 248 students are under Special Education Assistance Program (Seap), 80 are victims and dependents of the 2003 and 2016 bombings, 52 students are under Financial Assistance for Lumads, 49 students are under Technical Vocational program, 37 students are under Medicine assistance program, 19 are under Law School Assistance Program, and 14 are under financial assistance for the differently-abled.
Domingo said that their office is open to accept new applications for the school year 2018-2019, and applicants especially for Step will only have to show their report card as the initial requirement, as they are strict that the scholars must have no failing grade and a resident of Davao city.
The scholarship application period opened last April 3, 2018 and will end on April 30.
Domingo said that this year the City Government alloted a total of P57,925,194 for the programs of Ebsu.
He said that next year there is a huge possibility that the budget for Ebsu will be increased, as it is the direction of the administration to cater to more scholars in the city.
