THERE will be roughly 43,000 jobs awaiting jobseekers in Central Visayas on May 1, Labor Day.
The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 7 announced the figure in a press statement yesterday, where it revealed that six simultaneous job fairs will be held in the region.
Dole 7 Officer-in-Charge Exequiel R. Sarcauga said that of the 43,313 registered job vacancies, 11,663 are local job vacancies while 31,650 are for overseas placements. A total of 183 employers are expected to participate, 130 of whom are local and 53 are overseas.
Some of the local positions available are customer service representatives, production workers, market researches, sales staff, construction workers, cashiers, waiters, cook, bank staff, and account executives.
Sarcauga said Dole is hoping to have as many “hired on the spot (hots)” individuals as possible on May 1. He advised applicants to bring all important pre-employment documents like a bio-data, transcript of records, certificates of employment, clearances and photos.
This Friday, three local job fairs will be conducted in the following locations: Cebu Provincial Capitol, SM City Cebu Trade Hall, and SM Consolacion. Meanwhile, an overseas job fair will be in the Cebu City Sports Complex. A local and overseas job fair will be conducted in Robinson’s Place in Dumaguete City. Hoops Dome in Lapu Lapu City will host a local and overseas job fair on the same day.
The employment situation in 2015, according to the labor agency, is poised to continue the growth seed in 2014. Last October, the country recorded its lowest unemployment figure in 10 years, at six percent.
However, underemployment has increased. The Labor Force Survey in October 2013 showed 18.0 percent of Filipino workers are underemployed. This increased to 18.7 percent in October 2014.
