MYRA Acedo and Mario Boro clinched titles in separate categories of the 80th Araw ng Dabaw cycling competition on Sunday, March 26, at the Barangay Langub, Davao City.
Acedo, who also bagged the gold medal in the Batang Pinoy 2016 Mountain
Bike event, clocked a total of 38 minutes and 55 seconds to annex the road bike ladies open title over Christine Jill Dansigan from Tagum City (44:36) and Feliza Joy Abellana (47:26), who finished in the next two places.
Acedo, in an interview with VoxPop Davao, said she leaned on from her vast experience and regular training to win the title.
The 16 year-old cyclist also shared her opinion with regards to the decision of to exclude them for the national team saying, "okay lang bisag wala mi nakuha, maningkamot lang gihapon mi ug training ug magpasikat para ma deserve na gyud namo na ma myembro sa Philippine Team (It's okay that we didn't made it to the national team. We'll just go on with our trainings until they realize our value)."
"If someday, I'll make it to the Philippine Team, mag-eensayo akong maigi kasi magagaling din ang mga kalaban (I will practice more since my opponents are also good)," Acedo said, who is still competing in the mountain bike ladies open as of this writing.
Boro, for his part, secured the road bike 13 and under boys’ title after finishing at 33:12, race passing Johane Zane TakatoshiKagitom (33:24) and Tagum City bet Joshua Bayabaya (34:33), who placed second and third, respectively.
The Road Bike 19 and below age bracket boys and road bike 15 and below age bracket are still being played at press time.
The event is organized by PhilCycling under the leadership of deputy
secretary-general Salvador Paholio and funded by the Sports
Development Division-City Mayors Office.
