AS THE first batch of the Ateneo De Davao University (Addu) summer sports camp that started last April 9 gathered 250 enrollees, more participants are expected to register for its batch two that will open on April 30 at the Addu Matina Campus.
Addu athletics director Noli Ayo, during Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association Forum held at the Annex of SM City Davao, said more enrollees are expected in the batch two as the first batch served as just a promotion so that more aspiring athletes will come in.
Ayo also said that the 12-day summer sports camp will offer basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, chess, touch rugby, athletics and swimming.
“We are also highlighting the touch rugby kase bago yun, it’s something that is not that popular but it’s really picking up,” the athletics director said.
He added that the participants will not only have their everyday training; they will also have a regular movie day every Friday that allows the participants relate their lessons to sports.
“Hopefully I’ve been talking with Hidilyn Diaz recently and hopefully we can also introduce weightlifting,” Ayo said in his intention to introduce the sport as part of the summer sports camp in the future.
The first batch will end on April 20 while the second batch is set on April 30 to May 11. (Sean Belen, FSUU intern)
