THE Davao City Agriculturist's Office (CAO) will hold successive training sessions for the fisherfolks here in celebration of the Fish Conservation Week from October 17 to 21.
There will be a Fish Organic Feed Training in Marilog District today, October 18, to be followed with the induction of officers of the Federation of the Fisherfolks Association in Davao City at the CAO.
There will also be training on Fish Organic Feed Formulation in Dumalag on Oct. 19, while an Orientation Training of the Fishery Law Enforcement will be held at the City Council on Thursday.
CAO head Leo Bryan Leuterio, in an announcement after the flag ceremony at the City Hall of Davao, said the activities were designed to promote awareness and vigilance on the coastal areas and all concerned villages.
"This is to promote awareness and vigilance among coastal communities and concerned villages through information dissemination on Marine Environmental Protection and Fishery Law, and related rules and regulations," Leuterio said.
Aside from awareness and vigilance, Leuterio said the office also aims to cultivate sense of volunteerism on fisherfolks and develop them as potential partners in the implementation of the environment conservation programs.
CAO-Fishery Resource Management Service Division head Mary Moratin, in a statement, said the trainings will benefit 36,000 members of the Federation of Fisherfolks Associations of Davao City spread across 24 coastal villages.
Leuterio said after the training sessions, there will also be a simultaneous coastal clean-up in Barangay 76-C, actual simulation of operations and strategies in coastal areas in Barangay 76-A, and fish cage tour on Oct. 21.
