THE Department of Agriculture in Negros Island Region (DA-NIR) is set to launch its Organic Market in Negros Occidental positioned to boost the local organic agriculture sector.
Joyce Wendam, regional director of DA-NIR, on Monday, June 19, said the Organic Market situated in front of their office on Gatuslao Street in Bacolod City will open in the last week of June.
Wendam said there will be an Organic Market Day every week which will showcase fresh organic products of farmer-producers in the province.
“This project is a result of the stakeholders’ feedback during the culmination activity of Farmers and Fisherfolk Month in the province last month,” Wendam said.
It will also equip farmers to generate additional income, she added.
Initially, the DA-NIR will link at least 10 local farmers in the Organic Market which will provide them free spaces.
Aside from actual sales, the project is also seen to enable organic farmers to expand their market by attracting potential buyers.
Once successful, the DA-NIR will institutionalize the project and replicate it in other cities and municipalities in the region.
