TOO bad, our world would surely be passing away. Worse yet, nobody knew when it would happen. Like it or not therefore, we would be taken unawares by the coming of the end-time despite the signs and wonders mentioned in the Holy Bible, like the appearing of false prophets that include the self-appointed Son of God.
But wait, suppose all of us know that the world will end in 24 hours, how would we spend our last day on earth? The obvious answer is that, most people would go to church including those who had not done such a thing for many years. All of a sudden, they would be longing for the invisible support of Jesus Christ. Repentance is the name of the game they would have to play.
What else would take place? Saved for watching the NBA playoffs and telebabad, hardly anybody would have any reason to do any work. In fact, if the workaholic President would announce “Business as usual,” no one would obey. There wouldn’t be much point in going to office, the work place, or the banks because money and goods would be valueless.
Likewise, all schools would be closed forever while at the same time students would not be taking to the street to tell on the President as being unworthy of the UP Honorary Doctorate Degree. Instead, they would be likened to scattered lambs in need of the Good Shepherd.
Likewise, the so-called extrajudicial killing and the war on drugs would come to a halt. There would be no reason for the Philippine National Police Director General to motivate the men in uniform to continue shooting people. There would also be no reason for him to keep on singing during his social function. At the end of the day, everybody would die anyway.
Even then, however, it baffles me no end to think of those who would still be spending an anxious, and frustrating, boring day. So what, if they ran out of time in doing the things they had always wanted to do? After all, what they had been longing for, would only equate an exercise in futility, under the circumstances.
