JUSTICE Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Wednesday said the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) is still a viable alternative to the anti-graft commission being planned by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Aguirre said the President can appoint a regular chairperson and two more PCGG commissioners to complete the complement of five commissioners and then assign one commissioner to handle the corruption allegations on his appointees and the other one to negotiate with the Marcoses.
"That will be our suggestion, if consulted. However, allow me to reiterate that I will support the President whatever his decisions may be on this matter," Aguirre said.
Last Tuesday, Duterte revealed his plan to create an anti-graft commission that will probe his appointees and to oversee the turnover of some of the alleged ill-gotten wealth of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
Duterte said the new commission will be headed by three officials.
In 2001, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo formed the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission but it was abolished by her successor, President Benigno Aquino III, in 2010 due to "redundancies." (VoxPop Philippines)
