NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office chief Director Oscar Albayalde is the "right guy" to serve as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), President Rodrigo Duterte said Monday, April 9.
"Actually, there are suggestions, aplenty. But I chose the right guy for the position. Albayalde, for me, is the right guy for the moment. So that's him," Duterte said in a pre-departure interview in Davao City, when asked as to why he picked Albayalde as the next PNP head.
On April 5, Duterte announced that Albayalde would replace outgoing PNP Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, who is set to retire on April 21.
Asked on why he did not pick someone from Davao City to assume Dela Rosa's post, the President explained that he picked the outgoing PNP chief because he trusts the latter.
The President said that Albayalde is also one of the men he could also trust, especially that he is not fond of micromanaging his top officials.
"I need men (whom) I could really trust," he said.
"I don't micromanage. I do not play favorites. I don't want the military and the police to be tainted with politics," Duterte added.
Albayalde, who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on November 8, 2019, earlier thanked Duterte for his new position and Dela Rosa for recommending him. (VoxPop Philippines)
