ALIJIS village chieftain Vemver Ray Buenafe of Bacolod City has sought the intervention of the City Council on the operation of the IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC) garbage transloading station in the barangay.
IPM-CDC is the contractor for garbage collection and hauling of the City Government.
Buenafe, in his letter dated June 28, 2017 to Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of committee on environment, said the IPM-CDC transfer station at their barangay started its operation while they are still in the process of conducting a public hearing and had not approved the resolution of endorsement and no objection.
Buenafe said the transfer station is not suitable for the area because it is surrounded by houses, medical supply factory, and eateries which can be very hazardous to health.
“In line with this, we seek your intervention so that it can be resolved immediately,” he said.
Rojas said on Wednesday, July 12, that they held a public hearing on Tuesday with the residents of Barangay Alijis along with the representative of IPM-CDC.
She said the IPM-CDC explained that there will be no dumping of waste in the site and only a truck-to-truck transfer of garbage will take place.
The residents believe the site will be the dumping ground of waste products before these will be transferred to the dump site in Barangay Felisa.
Rojas said that during the public hearing, the IPM-CDC assured them that there will be no dumping of garbage in Alijis.
“It’s only a motor pool and at the same time a transloading area,” she said.
Rojas added that the Barangay Alijis Council requested the IPM-CDC to attend their next session so that they can present the proposed plan for the site.
