AN ongoing construction of the new Tabunok Public Market and other infrastructure projects were among the accomplishments reported by Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas in his first 100 days in office.
In a press conference, Gullas said he could have done more in his first 100 days, but he said that he can’t do so because of the City’s limited budget.
Gullas said that despite the P630-million annual budget, which was approved during the stint of former mayor Johnny de los Reyes, he implemented some projects, including the construction of the P150-million new Tabunok Public Market.
Aside from the public market, the mayor said at least P30 million has been allocated for 3.5 kilometers of barangay road rehabilitation projects around the city.
The City Government of Talisay also appropriated P15 million for the construction of a three-story school building at the Talisay City Science High School in Barangay Poblacion, and P11 million for the construction of new school facilities at the Talisay City College.
Gullas said that the City initiated these projects without having to borrow from financial institutions.
The mayor said that he facilitated the approval of additional allowances for public school teachers, police officers, jail officers and fire officers assigned in the city.
Allowances for police, fire and jail officers are now P2,000; before the increase was implemented, they were getting P1,000 a month.
From P6,000 each, chiefs of police, fire and jail are now receiving a monthly allowance of P8,000.
Every public school teacher assigned in Talisay receives P800 monthly allowance. They used to get P500 a month.
The mayor assured that he will implement more programs and projects once his proposed 2017 annual budget will be approved by the City Council.
