Alvarez: Why you are envious of other’s success

Published on

IT IS always easy to say that one should be happy for other’s success– but it is difficult to do especially when one thinks he or she deserves better than the others should.

Your friend might have a grade of 97 and yours is just 93, a colleague might have been promoted while you are still stuck in the same position for years or you feel like you don’t receive many blessings while others are showered with so much blessings.

Do you wonder why you sometime feel this way?

Allow me to share my views that will help you realize why you cannot be genuinely happy for other’s achievements.

Appreciating others begins by appreciating yourself. When you finally know and understand yourself, you will begin to appreciate who you are and what you do. And you will finally welcome the door of self-acceptance. The truth is that appreciating yourself means loving yourself. When you do this, you will learn to appreciate others as well.

Comparing yourself to others is the death of your own success. Stop evaluating yourself every day by thinking whether you are better than others or not. Do not waste your time by competing with other people- everyone has his or her own time to shine so be unique and memorable. Keep doing whatever is your passion because if you are truly good, opportunities will come after you and success will also chase you.

Success is achieved because of hard work. There is absolutely no short cut to success. Always be reminded that if somebody succeeds, it was due to their perseverance, self-belief, and hard work. So do good works as it is something that will help you reaped rewards in the end.

However, not everybody understands hard work because they only rely on luck. Remember what Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Shallow men believe in luck or in circumstance. Strong men believe in cause and effect.”

Insecure people are jealous of others limelight. If you disrespect others because you envy their achievements, it only reflects your own insecurities. Your pride is going to suffocate you. You will be imprisoned of the burden of your own insecurities. The truth is that you are scared of being left out. You have that harmful extreme low self-esteem and you long to see others fail in fulfilling their dreams. You have a heart that is unhappy and bitter and you want others to be unhappy too.

Being unhappy of other’s success is really a selfish act! Don’t you think that this is the time for you to check on yourself? Are you really working hard? Or are you just waiting for success to arrive? Come on, life needs to be worked out–polished your life deep within. Hard work requires genuine beauty in the heart too. And do not expect others to hand success to you because it is you who has the critical role to create your own success with a humble heart.

Success needs 100 percent hard work. It is like putting your soul in it, it is a shame to say you did it alone perfectly when others did it for you.

Success comes in many forms–but the most important thing to do is to acknowledge every individual that helps you attained your goals.

And as to being happy to other’s achievement - well, I guess; now we can begin to check ourselves… Always look at other’s success positively. Just be reminded that the success of other people is not going to harm you and that it did not happen to diminish your value. Being happy for other’s success is not going to cost you anything!
