PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte remains committed to fulfilling his mandate to serve and protect the Filipino people, amid the filing of an impeachment complaint against him in the House of Representatives.
The Chief Executive said he would continue to "stay in the right path and just work," despite his opponents' move to remove him from office.
"In the meantime, we should just stay in the right path and just work. Me, I don't mind the – I don't even answer the challenges and the charges. It's useless," Duterte said at the sidelines of the groundbreaking ceremony of the P700-million drug rehabilitation center in Bukidnon.
Last Sunday, the President shrugged off the filing of impeachment case against him, dismissing it as “all politics” and “more of publicity.”
Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano filed last week an impeachment complaint against Duterte for culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
Malacañang has called the impeachment case as a “larger scheme” that aims “to discredit the administration.” It added that the President will remain focus on implementing his policies and programs.
Duterte has vowed to curb crimes, corruption, and illegal drugs in the country under his six-year term.
While Duterte was unfazed by the ouster moves against him, he said elected officials like him should be given the chance to perform their duties.
"We had elections a few months ago and we go to the stigma role of ousting our officials, including me. We should forget politics first. Let the elected leaders of this country do their work. You know, whatever happens, the leaders are elected by the people," Duterte said. (VoxPop Philippines)
