THE Palaro-bound high school boys pair of David Rey Ancheta of Corpus Christi School and Clyde Harris Saraos of Jasaan, Misamis Oriental made a 1-2 finish in the recent FLG Farm and Merchandise pre-summer 13-under rapid chess tourney at the Capitol Chess Park here.
MisOr’s ladies tandem of Me Ann Joy Baclayon and Mary Joy Tan, who ruled in the distaff’s own elimination round, occupied third and fourth, with fellow qualifiers from CdeO Shaina Grace Garcia and Zed Seidel Gesulga landing at fifth and 6th places, respectively.
Ancheta received P1,500 plus trophy, while Saraos and Baclayon got P1,000 and P700 each with medals.
“Obviously, preparing them for the Palaro campaign with a rapid tourney is not quite satisfactory kay standard taas ang oras sa Palaro. Pero mas maayo na lang pud kay sa wala,” one kiddies chess coach told VoxPop Cagayan de Oro. (LLS)
