JAPANESE restaurants are sprouting all over there’s never enough time to track them down and test them all. But we do try to. Thus, we found ourselves in one of the new ones last week, Kitsune.
Kitsune is along Juna Avenue beside Lispher Inn.
It’s tiny, like most Japanese restaurants that are sprouting are, and offers enough treats to try. I was up to my tiptop best though and first ordered the two items in the menu that weren’t in stock, the seafood ramen and one other stuff I can’t recall (Nanluod na ko).
Top on the list, of course, are the ramen (tonkatsu, shoyu, and that spicy one tantan-something), then we got the crispy salmon maki, the kani salad, fried gyoza, and one of those skewered stuff.
I like the kani salad best, it was a generous serving too for its price and the vegetables were fresh and crunchy. The ramen had all the flavors, all right. But they were on the salty side. A little less salt would be most appreciated. The salmon maki was good, and did have the crunch, and the fried gyoza was okay although a bit too oily.
Over-all, it passes muster and is worth a visit. If you are into Japanese food. Although it’s not over-the-top wow. They got the snort through your nose kind of wasabi, and that for me is good enough. (I hate those sissy wasabi that don’t deliver the punch and snort).
