SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The Evelio B. Javier (EBJ) Memorial Airport here is ready to serve the flights of very important persons (VIPs) attending the Palarong Pambansa 2017.
President Rodrigo Duterte was expected to lead the opening ceremony for the annual national games on April 23.
Leonito Montano, of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, and EBJ airport manager Martin Tere met with Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao on Monday to inform her that the airport could accommodate the special flights of Palaro VIPs from April 22 to 30.
Cadiao said Tuesday the President "is 80 percent coming to Antique to grace the opening ceremony of the Palaro."
Montano said that representatives of Philippine Airlines (PAL) will also come to inspect the airport's runway, to determine what plane to utilize for the special flights.
Cadiao is hopeful that the EBJ airport, which was closed down several years ago, would finally be reopened and become operational to commercial flights in the coming months. (PNA)
