AFTER his series of victories in local and international racing, Castrol-Yokohama champion driver Iñigo Anton recently took home the biggest prize in Cadet Karting during the Golden Wheel Awards and AAP Awards night.
Anton was crowned Cadet Karter of the Year by both awarding bodies in separate award ceremonies last month.
With the awards, Anton, 12, etched his name in Philippine motorsports and took home the perpetual trophy for Cadet Karters.
“As I was growing up I saw all of my dad’s trophies in the house and wanted to win the same kind of award one day. Today that dream came true and even better was my dad was also awarded on the same night during the Golden Wheel awards,” Anton said referring to his father Carlos who was also awarded the “Motorsports Achievement Award” for winning in the Taiwan Gymkhana last October with team mate Milo Rivera.
“I’m so proud of Iñigo and for his name to be on one of the Perpetual Trophies of Motorsports is something to be very proud of. I think I can already retire soon,” said Carlos, who is an 8-time AAP driver of the year and a two time Golden Wheel awardee.
The father and son tandem now plan to compete as team mates in the National Slalom Series for 2017 under the colors of Mark Young Racing.
“Inigo is very excited to get back into racing cars again after doing 2 years of karting with the Kilton-Kart Plaza team,” Carlos added.
Earlier this year, the Baguio racing scion, scored a big win at the Macau International Kart Grand Prix held at the famous Kartrodomo de Coloane racetrack on board his reliable Kart Plaza-WorksBell prepared racing machine took the pole position for the Formula Cadet class in the time trials with a time of 1 minute and 170 seconds.
He battling it out with Austrian Constantin Reisch, Japanese aces Seiya Hino, Taichi Tachikawa, and Yuta Fujiwar, Thai driver Tayapol Kongsuwan, Singaporean Tiziano Monza and a host of other top notch karters from the region during the qualifying heats leading up to the finals.
The Antons were also recognized during the 31st Kafagway Sports International Luminary Award in the city. (Roderick Osis)
