ANTONES Lines took the driver's seat after its second straight win in the 1st Bing Uy Soyao Memorial Cup with a 77-70 triumph over Judge Marketing on Monday, August 14, at JGC Gym at Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.
There was no stopping the trio of Hermie Derwill (20 points), Garry Garcia (15), and Boy Ojoylan (12) plus the eight markers from Dagol Flores for Rene Antones’ squad which led 40-28 in the first half.
JM’s Ariel Tornilla broke free in the second half with 26 points, but got only help from Toto Cordova's 12 points. Judge was weakened more by the absence of the injured Vic Dueñas in the last canto where three 50-Up players are required in the first five minutes of the 12-minute quarter.
In the earlier match, J’ Trend Controls siphoned off Baciwa, 75-56 behind the 14 points of Johann Belandres and Bert Celis’ 12 markers. Eight other Controllers scored single digits as Waterman Bobot Alvarez released 22 points for the team which lost twice.
Games on Monday, August 21, pit Judge Marketing against Baciwa at 7 p.m. and J’ Trend Controls versus Antones Lines art 8:30 p.m.
Antones will take the number one semifinal spot if it prevails while Judge Marketing has to be victorious to preserve its number two spot. A win for the Controllers will create a triple tie which will be decided by quotient system. (HGD)
