THE Davao City Council approved on third and final reading Tuesday, October 10, the allowable use of land for the water treatment facility to be built by the Apo Agua Infrastructure Incorporated in Barangay Gumalang, Baguio District.
All 22 councilors voted for the project having been satisfied by the proponent's compliance with the requirements.
Last Monday, AAII Board of Director Manuel Orig gave the commitment that while the AAII was given exclusive rights by the Department of Energy to utilize, explore hydropower at Tamugan River, the corporation will not sell excess power to the grid.
Orig said that the 2.2 megawatt target energy generation will be solely used for the bulk water project.
The Tamugan Bulk Water Project has been eyed as the main source of water in the city in the next three years as the Davao City Water District will allow some of its aquifers to rest for a while to replenish.
The completion of the project is also eyed to end the long-term water shortage in Cabantian.
