FOUR new events were included in the 81st Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival Para Games that will get underway on March 1 at the Rizal Park, Davao City.
Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (Philspada) Davao City president James Infiesto bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex of SM City Davao on Thursday.
Infiesto said events for women are included in the annual sportsfest for persons with disability (PWD) including wheelchair marathon/wheelaton and fun run exclusively for women.
"It's time to put put emphasis on our women PWD athletes because mahihirapan sila makipag-compete pag may lalaki silang kalaro," Infiesto said, adding that they also separated the fun run for totally blind from the partially blind categories to make it fair.
Another addition is the table tennis event for hearing impaired athletes.
The wheelchair table tennis, standing/crutches table tennis, chess for visually impaired, chess for orthopedically handicapped, volleyball for hearing impaired, goalball for visually impaired, 3x3 wheelchair basketball and wheelaton for men are will also be featured.
Infiesto thanked Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte through the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) for including PWDs in the annual Araw ng Dabaw sports fest.
"Davao is the only city that is consistent among other cities in the country that are allowing PWDs to join big celebrations," Infiesto said.
Cash prizes await winners of the event including medals.
