IN CELEBRATION of the 81st Araw ng Dabaw, the Davao Volleyball Association (Dava) in cooperation with Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) will bring an exciting volleyball action through the Youth Beach Volleyball Tournament that will open on March 16 at the Felis Resort Complex.
Dava president D'Artagnan Yambao, in a Facebook conversation on Saturday, said the event aims to provide exposure for young players.
"Since it only involves two players per team with no coach inside the bench, it will somewhat make them independent on their decisions and strategy of plays. This will boost their morale and build their confidence since there are also no substitutes and no libero," he said.
Yambao also said that this will develop players' individual skills in all aspects of the sport.
Boys and girls divisions are entered in the single-round robin format elimination event enroute to the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
Boys must wear tank top shirts and shorts while girls may wear short cycling shorts and a mid-rib upper uniform.
Cash prizes await winners with the top four teams in both divisions receiving P3,500, P3,000, P2,500 and P2,000 with medals.
The fifth to 10th placers, however, will receive a consolation prize of P500.
Yambao, meanwhile, thanked the Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, SDD-CMO, Felis Resort, and Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) president Edgardo Tito Boy Cantada, Tanduay Athletics, Philippine Sports Commission, Davao City Sports Council Incorporated and Miranda Family.
