TOP ranked Johnny Arcilla made short work of his opponent in the singles division then pulled off another stellar performance to capture the doubles crown at the close of the Baguio Open Tennis Tournament recently.

Arcilla edged Leander Lazaro, 6-4,6-1 to win the P30,000 top purse at the Baguio Tennis Club inside the Baguio Athletic Bowl.

The country’s ace tennis player then joined hands Ronard Joven to topple Baguio’s Jet Tangalin and Jun Cortez and win the P20,000 top purse in the doubles category.

Prior to the Baguio competition, Arcilla and Joven also joined a tournament in Cainta which served as training before seeing action in the Summer Capital.

“All throughout, the game was good, I also had good sleep. In tennis, when you have a decent sleep, it is for sure there will be a good outcome,” said Arcilla.

Arcilla lauded organizers hoping the tournament would continue and become bigger in the near future.

“This is my first time playing here in Baguio, fortunately we became champions,” added Joven who has been playing tennis for 17 years. (Crystal Mae Aquino/Colegio de Dagupan intern)
